Free school supplies for local children

School supplies

I was listening to the radio earlier this week and heard that the cost of school supplies have gone up considerably between this year and last.

My first thought was, “Well, it’s good that the Chamber has a drive every year and people donate school supplies there.” Then I remembered that I was thinking of the Giving Tree and that was a Christmas event.

I also remembered how much I enjoyed shopping for someone else then and thought, “Why not do it for school supplies, as well?”

So what I am looking for is about four local (Elmore County) children in need of school supplies. I will get copies of the school supplies lists and purchase those children the items from that list.

I don’t actually know any kids, so I’m looking for nominations from the community. Please fill out the information below and email it to schoolsupplies@taylorlm.com nominating a local child that is in need of school supplies by Friday August 1.

My plan is to go shopping Saturday and notify the parents to pick up the items during the week on Sunday.

If any members of the community would like to donate school supplies or cash, please contact me at the email address above. All donated items/donated money will go directly to local children and I’ll just keep picking kids from the emails until all supplies have been donated.

I have not yet decided how to decide which four children to select. It will probably come down to the provided descriptions of need and there’s a good chance I’ll decide to sponsor more than four children.

Info needed:

1. Name/age/gender of child.
2. School and grade of child.
3. Contact info for parents (email or phone number)
4. A quick (250 words or less) description on why this child/family could benefit from the school supplies.
